Wonderful tumblr!! I was digging through your archives and I came across the Woodbury School for girls in Ansley Park. My friend Kayla lives in the house right next door to there on 17th street. I never knew the history of those apartments haha thank you for the information!!!
Thanks - glad you like it! You’ve got a great one as well…
A wonderful photo set of the William Greene Raoul House, which was a Queen Anne mansion at 6th and Peachtree Street. The 1891 beauty, a stylistic cousin of the still standing Peters Mansion, succumbed to fire in 1991. It had been hidden by the construction of the American Red Cross building. Atlanta Time Machine also has a great page with pictures of the Raoul House. Midtown Atlanta.
Check out this link! I always thought this would be a cool concept, but I don’t create websites, so I’m glad someone else had the same idea lol. You can take historical photographs and link them to specific locations on Google Maps. The neatest part? You can sync the photo with Street View and adjust the transparency to create awesome, ghostly before and after shots! I’ve started added some pics as have others, so give it a look.
A Grand Gamble: Super-Tony Tower Breaks New Ground in Midtown (1992)
Imagine a neighborhood in the clouds, where work is an elevator ride away and residents awake to a panoramic view of the sunrise over Stone Mountain.
This is no dream, but the GLG Grand tower, which is shooting up 53 stories in the heart of Midtown Atlanta on 14th Street. Scheduled to open in November, the Grand will be a 24-hour-a-day, mini-indoor city within a city.
